The T3 unit is pretty good, but I found that the T3 unit you can buy with influence from the spacers was way stronger when I slapped a bunch of the xeno mods on them. I guess the reason is because free units are op? The best thing I've gotten from it is the sniper rifle that you unlock with the T3 unit, because I fully upgraded a hero with ranged upgrades, and that thing does a ton of damage, and it stuns pretty consistently. Honestly to me the payoff isn't seeming like its worth it, the units are strong and the mods are strong, but it seems to difficult to maintain the units. I did one fight against 18 bio units, and infected them all and I got 3 guys out of it-even with the doctrine active and a hero in the fight. But again, I have like 5 or 6 of the tier 3 units atm and I still have to go to into manual combat everytime to keep my numbers up. When things get a little better is in the social tree you unlock the biomatter preperation training operation, and thats when you start to get a decent number of the dudes.

You have to go into manual combat and make sure to infect every enemy unit in the early game (the plague pod mod is the early option to get your units to inflict it) and you might get a tier 1 unit per fight. Honestly its a lot of micro in manual combat in order to get anywhere with them. I'm doing a playthrough with amazon/xeno atm and what I've found is that you really need to get the proper support from heroes to make it good.
